Luxe, Grosse Pointe

One of my favorite things in the entire world are stars.

Growing up, my family had a cottage on Lake Huron. One night, my grandpa walks over to me and says “come with me.”

I follow him out onto the beach and we stood there for what felt like ages staring up at the sky. The absence of big buildings, street lights and large, lighted houses made the sky come alive. Every inch of it was full of fiery, glittering stars that seemed to extend forever and surround us thanks to the mirroring of the glass-like water.

I realized at that moment, nothing would be as beautiful as a starry night.

Well, you can imagine how I felt about a local restaurant that had a ceiling full of lights meant to look like stars. I’d stare at it and every once in a while you’d see “a shooting star” and I would jump up and down, pointing, clapping and making a spectacle of myself (some things never change).

To my utter dread and disappointment, that restaurant closed it’s doors years ago. I felt crushed. Betrayed. Devastated. Life would never be the same.

That is, until someone convinced me to check out the new guy that took over and I realized that there is one thing that comes precariously close to the beauty of a clear, starry night – a restaurant that has an endlessly delicious menu.

Luxe Lightbulb

Luxe is the perfect mixture of dark, cozy pub meets chic city restaurant. There’s something to look at in every corner (but not in an overwhelming, Hard Rock way) – a rather good first date spot, if you ask me. You’ll never run out of things to talk about here.

They also have a fantastic happy hour which is always a win in my book.

Now, the reason you’re here – the food.

The Luxe Burger.

Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup.

Luxe Grilled Cheese

Gruyere, muenster, goat cheese, arugula, pickled jalapeno and red onion relish served with homemade tomato soup.

Fluffy, cloud-like cheese, with sweet arugula on crispy, crunchy toast. This isn’t your mother’s grilled cheese, I promise you that.

I’ve had salads, burgers, grilled cheeses and so much more here and each is better than the last which, honestly, makes ordering quite an ordeal but an ordeal I’m more than happy to take on.

Oh, come on. Let’s have one more look at that grilled cheese.

Perfection. Absolute perfection.

I agree – there is something about a starry night that just takes your breath away and I could just gaze up at the sky without realizing time passing. All that food looks delicious and the I love the name of that restaurant.
