If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know I was out adventuring last week!
A few weeks back, I booked a last minute trip to Crystal Mountain, a ski resort in northern Michigan.
After a long ride of winding streets, hills and tall pines, we finally pulled into a long, tree lined drive . . .
Just to find the mountain closed for lack of snow. If we’re being honest, this was totally fine by me.
Growing up, my mom (an avid sun worshipper) was of the mentality that trips during the winter were not only mandatory but had to be to a place that was sunny, warm and within arms reach of a frozen rum drink.
We traveled to Florida, Arizona, California, Hawaii. All gorgeous places without a snowflake in sight. In other words, no skiing. Ever.
Looking back, I think that was all for the best considering my ability to walk flat footed resembles that of a drunken baby giraffe learning to walk for the first time.
Why did you book a stay at a ski resort then, Caitlin?
Because I’ve always wanted to go to one. Isn’t there something so appealing about curling up in a cozy ski lodge by the fire with a mug of cocoa in one hand and a good book in the other?
So, when I stumbled across Crystal Mountain’s website, I was on the phone making reservations before even looking past the homepage.
Crystal Mountain has a huge variety of different accommodations – we stayed in the Hamlets. What they lack in exterior beauty, they sure made up for inside.
Big, squashy beds, a good view, kitchenette and a huge jacuzzi tub I wanted to take home with me.
The resort is set up like a town, full of cottages, townhouses, condos and inns. Surrounded by hills on one side and huge pines on all the others.
The best part? Every tree was covered in twinkle lights!
It’s the most perfect resort to grab a buddy and go for a wander.
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen so many trees in my life as I saw at Crystal Mountain. You’re completely surrounded by tall, intimidating, perfectly lined pines. It’s absolutely beautiful!
After a few hours of exploring in the fresh air, we popped back to the hotel for a treat and a snooze.
There really is no better way to spend a day than wandering around outside, exploring a new place.
Stay tuned, more adventures tomorrow (there’s food involved).
