Tips for Clean, Healthy Skin

This is going to be my last post for this week!

I’m going on vacation for a few days and I couldn’t be more excited! Isn’t it just the best feeling when a trip you planned ages ago finally arrives?

So before I leave you, I wanted to do a second part to my quick and easy summer night makeup post from yesterday.

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve never been a big makeup person.

I never felt comfortable with tons of makeup on my face – my routine started with eyeliner in high school, then I started wearing a little powder around college and that’s it.

I think I picked this up from my mom – she wears very little makeup as well and I’ve always loved how clean and natural her look is.

I remember when I got around the age to start wearing makeup, she said to me, whether you wear makeup or not, the most important beauty lesson I can teach you is to never go to bed without washing your face.

From that day forward, I never have. My friends would make fun of me when we’d drag our feet in after a night out and all we wanted was to crash in our beds but I always made the trip to the bathroom to take my makeup off first.

I’ve switched up products throughout the years – I’ve tried different wipes and scrubs but never really found my groove until recently.

Now that I’m older, taking care of my skin is one of the most important things to me and I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s no better beauty routine than than clean, healthy skin.

So, naturally, I thought I’d share my routine with you.

First things first, wash your hands.

I remember in college watching a friend put her phone down and walk over to go to wash her face and all I could think about was all the places that phone has been and all the germs she’s rubbing back into her skin. It’s gross.

After washing my hands, personally, I like to take my eye makeup off first.

I’ve been using the Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover for years and it’s my absolute favorite. It’s oil free and perfect for sensitive skin.

I actually just started wearing mascara and was on the hunt to find a makeup remover for my eyelashes that was soft and non-abrasive. You know, you don’t want your eyelashes falling off when you take your mascara off. Kind of defeats the whole point . . .

I discovered Almay Makeup Remover Pads and all I have to say on that matter is that I’m in love. Complete, unadulterated love.

Now, my number 1 top recommended beauty product. Are you ready for this?

I promise I’m not pulling your leg. Dove soap is so fresh and light and you feel all the makeup, dirt and grime from the day washing off with the suds.

Plus, having worked in advertising I’m a huge sucker for a good ad campaign and Dove creates some of my ABSOLUTE favorites!

I also use, Neutrogena Natural’s Purifying Pore Scrub. It leaves your skin so unbelievably soft!

Just make sure you wash everything off good. Not like those crazy face wash commercials where the celebrity throws water on her face and calls it a day.

The only better feeling than going to bed with a clean face that can breathe, is going to bed with crisp, clean sheets and shaved legs. You know what I’m talking about!

In the mornings, I like to wake up, throw some cold water on my face (celebrity face wash commercial style), pat it dry and slather on some face lotion.

I love Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Face Lotion with SPF – it adds some extra protection in case you forget to put sunscreen on and, added perk, moisturizing your face helps your makeup stay on better!

You don’t need much . . .

Just rub it in . . .

And you’re ready to take on the day!

I think we get so wrapped up in makeup tutorials and hacks, we forget to give attention to our skin but when you think of it, if you were a painter, you wouldn’t want to paint on a dirty canvas, would you?

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Any big plans? Leave your blog link below so I can see all I missed when I get back from my trip!

Hope you are having an awesome time on vacation, girl!

Also, I love this post! I’m all about a clean face! I go to the gym every morning so I wash my face when I shower afterward and then I wash my face again at night time (just like you – every night!). And I love your Almay recommendation. I hate taking mascara off because I feel like my eyelashes all seem to fall out when I do. I want to try this one for sure!

I didn’t wear mascara for the longest time because I was afraid of being eyelashless (no joke) so I definitely would give Almay a try! X
