National Girlfriends Day

What better post to come back from a hiatus with than one about National Girlfriends Day!

I’ve never been the popular girl with an endless list of friends. I’m a very private person and am very particular about who I share my life with. Some tell me that’s extremely pretentious but I see it as drama free. I don’t have a “squad” I go out with on Friday nights or constantly talk in group chats. All my friends get along with one another but are not friends outside of me. If I have a falling out with one, it doesn’t impact my friendship with others. If I need to vent, I have a safe space to do it. Yet, if it’s my birthday and I want all my friends dancing with me, we can all get together and have a great time.

Just the other day, I was thinking about how lucky I am to have the friends I have. They’re compassionate, intelligent, hysterical and extremely ambitious. There is no doubt in my mind that they will all leave an incredible impact on the world. They are strong women who do not settle in their professional lives and will do anything for their loved ones in their personal lives. If something is the matter and I don’t want to talk, they never force it but make sure I know they’re there. If we get wrapped up in our own lives and don’t talk for months, when we do, it’s as if no time has passed. We can chat about movies, life, Harry Potter over wine or world issues, politics, feminism over coffee.

People have asked me, isn’t it hard having your friends spread out all over the world? It’s definitely hard when Friday rolls around and you can’t grab a drink after work, have brunch Sunday mornings or share stories about your crazy day during evening yoga. I miss them like crazy all the time but then I hear of the amazing things they’re doing. There truly is nothing better than having friends who work to achieve their goals in life and challenge you to do the same. So, while I may not see them as much as I would like, I’m incredibly lucky to have them.

I’m a believer that good girlfriends are some of the best relationships you’ll have in your life so, cheers to all the girlfriends out there! May you continue to support, love and challenge the women in your life.
